In order to conquer the world, a software product has to be delightful to use. This is why we have been working hard on Cozy version 2.0, featuring a newer, cleaner, brand new home page. It comes with a simplified installation procedure for Debian and Ubuntu distros.

Version 2.0 of the Cozy platform

A great user experience is key if we want to empower everyone to take back control of her data. This is why we have focused our effort on the Home application. Cleaner, faster, simpler, it's also easier to use. This new user experience - which gives Cozy a distinctive touch - has been developed with the Cozy community. The mobile experience, which was made possible since the very early days, has been improved too. All these improvements are paving the way to mass adoption.

Tribute to John Oliver

This new released is dedicated to John Oliver for his amazing work on sensibilizing people about privacy, notably through his Dick Pics campaign.

New Features

Version 2.0 of the Cozy platform includes the following features:

  • New Home experience, with a simplified look
  • Apps are organized in groups when they're installed
  • Apps marked as favorite are listed on top of the home screen
  • The Settings application allows wallpaper customization
  • It's now possible to get help right from the home screen
  • Notifications are a lot nicer
  • Using the platform on mobile is significantly faster.

Please note that community members that use a Cozy-hosted instance already have the new version, but self-hosted users should apply the update by themselves.

A simplified install procedure on Debian and Ubuntu

For the very first time, Cozy Cloud is now made available as a Debian package, enabling a quick and painless installation on Debian and Ubuntu GNU/Linux distributions. This makes self-hosting easier as only a few keystrokes on the command line are needed to install Cozy Cloud on these two distros.

And now?

If you already have a Debian or Ubuntu server, go install Cozy, have fun with it and tell us what you think about it!

If, as an active member of the Cozy community, you already have a hosted instance, please go and test it and give us feedback on the forum.

If you don't have an instance nor access to a server, it's not too late to become a member of the Cozy Cloud community and request an instance.

Conclusion

We have tons of things left to do in order to become a product that serves a wider audience and challenges the big digital silos that collects most of the world's data. But we've made a significant step in the right direction, where everyone can take back control of his data using a personal cloud.

The Cozy team as a lot of great stuff coming. You'll love it. Stay tuned!
