Eight months ago, an experienced front end developer named Matthias joined our team. After awhile, we noticed how his UX improvements did great things for our platform. So, we decided to push it further. First, we formed a partnership with a UX course from a reputed French school named ENS Lyon. Students ran a big project about the user experience of the Cozy Home. They brought us many great insights. From their feedback, we built the new UX of the Cozy Home. The next step was to hire an in-house Product Designer. It’s not an easy task to find the right person for this job. Fortunately, Matthias loved the idea and dug into his network. Thanks to him, we met several talented people.
It was a tough choice but one of them stood out a little bit more; His name was Luc Chaffard.
One of the things that caught our eye on his profile is his ability to create beautiful designs and integrate it. In our case, it is vital because most of our developers are occupied with complex frontend development. At first, we collaborated with a simple project: Luc helped us integrate student recommendations that we gathered during their project. The collaboration worked seamlessly. Not long after, Luc joined our team. He started by analyzing the main flaws of Cozy and fixed them. With his clever improvements, he brought our product to the next step.
When you learn more about Luc this comes to no surprise. He is a self-learner. In his early days, he started by doing design for various print projects. He discovered Photoshop and was eager to learn everything about design from drawings to architecture. Equipped with his new knowledge, he helped more people on their projects. They benefited from his advice. That’s not all, Soon after, something sparked in him. In one night, Luc learned HTML and CSS. It may sound like nothing but with these new set of skills he was able to build his own web prototypes.
As you might have guessed, helping others and going beyond wireframes led him to making his own product. He noticed that in China, people are actively looking on information about restaurants. They rely heavily on comments and ratings of restaurants on the internet. This incites him to develop an app that could immediately detect and gather all existing comments of a restaurant from different recommendation websites just by entering the name of the spesific restaurant. In Europe this may be uncommon, but in China, it’s very useful. That’s why he decided to start his own startup and moved to Shangai to do it. There, he learned to do a full UX design process: from the user interviews to the delivery in the product. On top of that, he was very involved in the startup ecosystem. He worked on several projects as a design consultant and improved his skills yet again.
After living in China for several years he decided to bring his knowledge back to France. He joined Bunkr, a trendy startup that creates social presentation tools. At the time they required an overhaul on their product. Luc successfuly conquered the task. Once the job is done, he searched for a new challenge and discovered Cozy. Our strong mission and vision attracted him instantly.
So he jumped into our boat. Since then, he has been working fiercely on making Cozy easy to use and extra appealing. The many design improvements that has been done on Cozy recently comes from him. It’s just the beginning of his work. As you noticed, Luc is a key player: he has strong UX skills and an entrepeneur mindset. Once our design is fully in order, he will be able to work on even deeper changes of the Cozy UX (based on your feedback of course!). Plus he is a big fan of our logo: he already printed a black version of our famous sticker! Needless to say, exciting things are coming our way. Stay tune to discover them!
